Genealogy of the Disappeared

Starting from a romantic inquiry “…How I can disappear, like the bubbles disappearing in the sky?” (Swimming Piece) and ending by adopting my alter ego “Ik ben Ritau van Koudewater. Dit is mijn nieuwe naam.” (Répétition), in this project, I dived between performance, documentation, and writing, reflecting on the absence, the uprootedness, and the ghostly strangeness in everyday life. Dealing with the theme of disappearance from personal, conceptual, and existential perspectives, I eventually found a reconciliation of the fundamental paradox between presence and absence, where infinite closeness is infinite openness, and thence completed my individualization.
